Marine Plant Life and Adaptations

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 4 months ago

There are many different kinds of plants in the ocean.  One of the interesting plants is called the Fat Strawberry.  It is interesting because it has a disk that sucks it to rocks so it won't wash away in the tide pools.  The Fat Strawberry kind of looks likes a strawberry.  It is fat and red and has little white spots on it just like the seeds on a strawberry.

Algae is a very interesting plant also because it is adapted to the amount of salt in the water.  It also has light catching  pigments.  The Sea Anemone grabs its food with its tentacles after it stings it.  Its tentacles stick out in all directions.  New plants grow strong roots to fasten themselves to the ocean floor to avoid being washed away by the current.  When parts of a plant break loose, they are swept away by the current and sink into the ocean floor or get stuck between a rock and the ocean floor, and a new plant can grow.  There are a million different interesting plants in the ocean.  Some are really pretty and some are very strange.
